Admirers of contemporary art have gathered at the 58th prestigious international exhibition – the Venice Biennale.

Azerbaijan participates in the 58th Venice Biennale, the International exhibition of arts, with the national pavilion on the “Virtual Reality” topic, arranged by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The exhibition, which opened in the Lezze Palace of 14th century in Campo Santo Stefano, presents works by artists and sculptors Zeygam Azizov, Orkhan Mammadov, Zarnishan Yusif, Kanan Aliyev and Ulviyya Aliyeva.

Topics of multimedia works, installations and sculptures in the pavilion cover daily meetings of people with a stream of various news. Every person in the world checks their phone about 150 times a day, more than two billion people use social networks. Fake news in social networks is shared much more often and most of the discussions are not related to their reliability.

Venice Biennale is considered the most prestigious exhibition in the field of contemporary art. Azerbaijan has been participating in this international project since 2007.

The 58th International Art Exhibition, titled “May You Live in Interesting Times”, takes place from May 11 to November 24. The title is a phrase of English invention that has long been mistakenly cited as an ancient Chinese curse that invokes periods of uncertainty, crisis and turmoil; "interesting times", exactly as the ones we live in today.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation was established on the grounds of the nation’s wish to express its esteem for the memory of Heydar Aliyev. This person entered Azerbaijani history as a builder of the independent state, and the necessity of reflecting his rich moral heritage, underlining the importance of the Azerbaijanism philosophy for the country and cultivating the national statehood ideas in children.

Starting its activity since 2004, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been actively participating in building a new society and contributing to the social and economic development of the country, by implementing various projects in spheres such as education, public health, culture, sports, science and technology, environment, and social and other spheres. President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation is Azerbaijan's First Vice-President, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva.
